I just moved to the Memphis area and the previous owner of the house left me a pile of unknown wood and a dead tree.

I'd like some help to determine if this stuff goes in the fire pit or the fire box! Can/should I cook on this?

Thanks!

Yeah i was thinking hickory too. If you the outside is so hard you cant push your finger nail in the bark then its hickory. Its a great flavor for beef or mix with a fruit wood for some ribs!
