Just signed up. I'm from a small town in Maine. Retired army helicopter pilot.

Just bought a Medina River Large 066.

Smoked a Boston Butt Sunday, turned out good. Now I need to learn how to use it. :-)

I know I need to do a few mods. Made a 20/20 basket works nice. Ordered nomex tape for the doors, then need to add tuning plates and a baffle. Any other mods needed?

any help greatly welcomed.

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "SMF User Guidelines" .....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per TulsaJeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Thanks for the welcome,

This site is great, There is so much info for a new smoker and it is written in way even I can understand it ;-) , all without being condescending.

It was my honor to serve you all while in the army.

So many questions --so little time

David

Just practice till you get to know your smoker and the seasonings you and you family like on different things. The more you cook the better you will get.

Thanks for the welcome Gary,

Can't wait to get some time logged on my smoker so I know what I'm

doing. Kind of any way.

I spent some time in Texas in the mid sixties, Went to helicopter flight school in

Fort Walters, near Weathersford. I don't think its there anymore. That was a very long time

ago. LOL

David

Thanks for the welcome Gary,

Look forward to chatting with you in the future.

I used to spend the month of June at a small camp ground

called Spencers Island in Nova Scotia. Loved it.
