New guy from Ohio,no kinda Georga, no Alabama???
Hey yall!! Ok, whats with the title??? I’m from Ohio, born and raised!! Met my DW from Georgia, fell in love with BBQ, (there was very little good BBQ in Ohio till a few years ago). We moved to Alabama for our jobs, to be closer the DW’s Family and a few other reasons. We are full timers living in or MH, based out of Birmingham, AL; I’m in sales and travel, A LOT, so the full time fits plus we love RVing!!
I first had truly great BBQ 10 years ago at a little place about an hour south of Atlanta, GA.
I fell in love and started messing around in Ohio at home with cheap grills, indirect grilling with homemade wood chip boxes, stainless plates, ect. Then I bought a cheap charcoal smoker and it worked ok, no it kinda sucked. Messed around with a few ground/pit smokers/grills, with ok results!! I have seen a bunch of homemade rigs and always wanted to build a reverse flow. I have several drawings of ideas of a multi-tasking unit but now it is difficult, no home or shop!!!
Then a few weeks ago we went to the Barsnville, GA BBQ and Blues Festival!!! I saw 10-20 different kind of units. Homemade, professional, and a few others. I got the bug, came home and found this site. I have spent hours surfing and finding great ideas. The original drawings were good but now they have to scaled back!!! I am working on the details and have a few “borrowed” ideas from the forum.
I can fabricate pretty well, weld OK, not real pretty but it gets better with time, draw well, (worked as a civil draftsman) and the key is, has a Dad who has a friend that can/will bend metal!!! One of my buddies I work with has a small mig unit and a garage and is willing to let me use his place!!! I’m going to finish up my drawings and post to see what advise I can get!!
Thanks for the great site, there is so much info here!!!!
Stay tuned!!!
Thanks
Tony
