Wife and I gave ourselves a belated Christmas present this past weekend, something we'd wanted for a while. Went out and bought a new refrigerator, this one a side-by-side with ice and water dispenser on the front, just like all them uptown folks have, lol! Our regular refrigerator is just a simple freezer-over-top, fridge-below kind. We also use a 5 gal. water cooler and a filter on the sink faucet, refilling the bottle every couple weeks with filtered water. But of late it's gotten to be a hassle because you'd get a taint to the water if ice formed in it, then you'd have to remove the bottle, clean it all out, put it back together, etc. So my wife started keeping a ½ gal. of filtered water in the fridge, she'd have to fill it nightly, etc. Finally I said, "Let's just get rid of the water cooler, stop hand-filling a bottle, and just break down and get a new fridge with the filtered water on the front and be done with it!" So, that's what we did. Went to Best Buy and found a model we liked (Whirlpool, white, side-by-side, Energy Star compliant, lock on the dispenser, full filtering with filter indicator). But, they were too busy to not just wait on us but to even recognize we were there after standing around 15 min. waiting for service -wouldn't even nod or make eye contact, so we left. Went to Conn's, found the same unit $10 cheaper ($809 at BB, $799 at Conn's), got greeted when we walked in, excellent and fast service, wrapped up and out the door in 20 minutes to get home in time for the Cowboys game! They delivered it the next day, too; it's all in place and mama's got fresh sparkling filtered water any time she wants it! And, the water bottle cooler has been removed, freeing up more space in the kitchen.
Now, the old fridge, you ask? Well, papa got what he wanted... a fridge out in the garage for pickling turkeys, storing butts and briskets, making buckboard bacon... lol! And, (and mama agreed) we now have the ability to take advantage of sales and stock up some on things we use the most, saving money! A win-win situation! The extra electricity for running two fridges is also partially offset by discontinuing running the water cooler, too.
