Been thinking about upgrading from my MES 140 to a Big Green Egg, well today pulled the trigger on a Large BGE with the nest.

The place I bought it was doing a BGE Appreciation event today, so along w the nest and BGE they throw in a bag of charcoal, grate brush, ash tool, bottle of Ogre sauce, BGE pecan rub and couple other small things.

Was talking to the rep while I was there and he said if I buy it today he will throw in a second bag of charcoal.

Got the BGE and nest still in the box as my vehicle wouldnt fit the BGE of it had been assembled.

Just finished putting it together. Surprisingly, the instructions are Ikea'esque, pictures only. Still only took an hour to put both the egg and nest together.

Congrats on the Egg. Our medium gets used a lot.

Did you get any accessories yet?
No, havent purchased anything as of yet, any suggestions for this Egg newby?

Definitely need to get the defuser, potentially the lil side tables also so I have a place to put things.

Thanks guys, looking forward to learning the new man toy

Anyone else with any tips or tricks, I welcome them

I'm assuming this will be your first time using charcoal/chunks/chips ??

Things that may help you get a more positve start...
Fire Management... The Minion method is gonna be your go to for most smokes .. Load it with unlit charcoal and mix your flavored wood chunks throughout... After time you will figure out your charcoal usage and adjust accordingly... Take 6,8,10 briquettes out of the center and light in your charcoal chimney... When they are about half to 3/4's lit dump them back in where you took them from... Open ALL vents WIDE OPEN... When temps start getting close to your target temp close down the intake to about 1/4 open ... When you make an air adjustment you must give it about 10/15 minutes to react ... You'll be surprised at the reaction to very little adjustment with the intake vent... If temps are climbing/falling pretty fast then make bigger adjustments... Smaller adjustments when temps are moving slow... Hopefully you have a competent thermometer...
