Aloha and Hello Y'all from a native born Californian who moved to Kauai, HI right out of high school. Once retired, moved on to New Orleans, then the mountains of North Carolina and now the flatlands along the river Neuse in North Carolina.
I love to eat and discovered early on that if you love to eat you should learn to cook. I didn't grow up knowing anyone that bbq'ed so am self taught. I was working on a movie in Texas and while there, bought an offset smoker from a rancher I met. Took it back to CA, bought a book by John Willingham, and started down the road of learning to smoke meat.
The offset was eventually sold and a Stump Classic became my smoker, along with a BGE, and a pretty complete outdoor kitchen with a gas grill. Now that I have moved so many times I am down to a brand new Stumps Baby and a Weber gas grill.
If anybody else in the forum is from the New Bern area, would like to get in touch.

Hi Agaffer ... We are also here in New Bern ... will start a conversation.

Welcome to the forum agaffer.
I’ve been vacationing to Emerald Isle since the 70’s, and always went to New Bern for dinner.
I’m considering retiring in the area.

Welcome from Wisconsin.

I have a Stump's Baby and I love it. I crafted a PID control unit for my pit and it works great.

Do you use a pit controller for your Stump's Baby?

Welcome from Ga. You'll find this is the best place to be. Hoping to see some pictures of some of your cooks.

I am actually still waiting for the Stumps baby to be finished. Once it is ready I will drive over to GA and pick it up. I have several BBQ 'Gurus and they worked fine with the Stumps classic and the BGE so, will continue using one of them on the new Stumps.
I will start posting pictures once I am back cooking.
