well the title sums it up. my name is aaron 28 yrs old, married to a beautiful woman and 2 great sons. been in the Air Force for almost 9 yrs as a F-15 crew chief and now most recently a F-22 crew chief stationed at langley afb in hampton va (va beach area). well ive deep fried a few turkeys and chickens and thought id give smokin a try. i am BRANDDDD new so any help and guidance would be appreciated. need something that is fairly easy and doesnt require 100% attention as i do have to very young boys. im thinking electric would be the way to go as far as easy goes. im a big sponge right now so learn me up guys and gals;) thanks.

Welcome.. glad to have ya here...this is the right place to get all your questions answered...lots of great friendly people just ready to help...just remember ...no question is a dumb question...
Electric is good... I use gas...just as easy...keep in mind tho...once you get hooked...something small to start with ,will be obsolete very quickly...lots of threads to read here..and I'm sure others will join in and help ya make a choice...

Wellcome to the world of smoking meats!
Spent a couple of weeks at Langley (1960, it was a SAC base and still have great appreciation for how good the chow was there)
If time IS critical steer clear of the Charcoal and wood burning units as they require as much attention as your kids.
An inexpensive electric bullet type will introduce you to smoking and with the moderate climate in Virginia will probably work fine. It would also be easier to move or leave behind in case you get re-assighned.

By any chance were you at Hill in June? Got to see the Raptor fly here while the runway at Langley was getting maintance done.

Welcome to SMF. They're right. If you don't want to babysit kids and food, don't go with wood. However, once you get it dialed in and used to it, you really don't have to babysit it much.
