You might be half asleep and put a rub on a ham that is still in the wrap.
Recovered, came out okay.

That is friggin' HILARIOUS! Love the lesson learned. I just put a couple of butts in the smoker about ten minutes ago for an overnighter, and actually stopped to remember taking off the vacuum wrap after reading this.
 
I have found more than 1 piece of plastic stuck on the bottom of a shoulder when I pulled it lol I reckon its to keep the bone from poking a hole in the wrap

I've had my moments.
Can honestly say I've never left things "on" before the smoke.
I've fallen asleep a couple times when finishing a smoke.
