the marshal did have solid temps from side to side as well and the top to bottom were not that far off from each other.

Don't listen to the naysayers. You hit the jackpot with this one. It's one of the most unique smokers ever built. 1/4-in steel and one of the most versatile. On top of that, it's a piece of history. Oklahoma Joe's defined quality smokers until 1998 when they sold to Char-Broil. Congratulations!
