Hi everyone !

I was just diagnosed with Kidney  Problems. What I am asking is does anyone have any recipes for rubs or just anything that is low sodium and low potassium. Or any suggestions at all.  Yhis is a whole new world to me, And I really don't want to give up smoking meats. So Any Help is greatly appreciated

Yes you can take the sodium down to a minimal. I would suggest taking a basic rub recipe and taking out or lowering the items needed and then add flavors that you like. I know several have done low or no sodium rubs and they work great. You can also change the kind of salt your using too.

blizzardsnest:

Here is a rub that I use quite often, it's my variation of "Baron's No Salt Rub".

This recipe calls for lemonaid punch powder, but I've used cherry, lime and grape with great results.

BARON’S NO SALT RUB
(Dutch’s Version)

1 cup ˜Sugar in the Raw”
3 tablespoons New Mexico chili powder
1 tablespoon Sugar-free lemonade powder
1 tablespoon parsley flakes
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
2 teaspoons celery seed
2 teaspoons fresh ground pepper
1 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon dill weed
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon marjoram
1 teaspoon sage

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
Store any unused rub in an air tight container

Sounds like a great recipe Dutch, you could take it one step further & use Splenda instead of the Raw sugar.

That's true Al, but since I still have a goodly amount of Sugar in the Raw left, Ma says I have to use it up. One plus is my Doc would rather me use raw sugar instead of the white processed stuff.

I have quit adding salt to rubs and sauces. About the only thing I use salt for is brines. You dont miss it after  a while.
