Need some help confirm wood type

I was given a log to use for smoking, Im 99% sure it's Cherry but I don't like to take chances. I have never used Cherry but wanted to give it a burn. Can anyone confirm for me the wood type

Looks like it could be cherry. How does it smell. Sweet?
