I have it narrowed down to 2 smokers. I want to have 1 grill for smoking and grilling.

1.Camp chef 36 woodwind with sidekick and grillbox

2. Yoder ys640s

I like the propane option with the camp chef alot since I grill burgers and dogs for the kids.

I also like the grilling option on the yoder. But i concerned about the amount of pellets i will be using since this will be my only grill.

Maybe there is a grill i having seen yet that you can recommend? Any help is needed. I dont want to spend $1500-$2500 and not be happy

I have a Yoder YS60S and don't find that the pellet usage is a big deal. I buy pellets by the 40# sack (B&B).

The Yoder is a heavy steel beast and is a bit pricey but it has the FireBoard system built in. That's what convinced me to buy it about a little over a year ago.

I have to confess that I have other pits and grills so it is not my only option. Meanwhile it sees significant use.

If you want a great smoker that has a great wood fired char griller, check out the Cookshack PG500.

Just to make it even tougher... the LSG 20" series has the Fireboard built in as well. Good luck on your decision. 👍

Just get a weber kettle, IMHO

make "log's" out of reconstituted pellets and foil. poke holes in them. plus, a kettle looks a lot less imposing. you might be able to sneak in another smoker easier...

The sear box on the CC is very small to me, 11x16 gets crowded very fast, glad I don't have to have only 1 unit, there are better units out there if your limited to only 1. buy once cry once imo

The Sidekick on the Camp Chef is a really a great add-on piece. You get a flat-top griddle included with it, and adding the grill box gives you a 30,000 BTU grill and sear station. And they have a pizza oven for it, too (I just got the pizza oven for Christmas and can't wait to try it :emoji_sunglasses: ). I've also used my Sidekick with a small stock pot to boil/steam crabs and corn on the cob.

My two cents...
I'm with Jake. If you can afford a Yoder, pellet cost is irrelevant. It's like buying a Porsche and worrying about the difference between regular and premium gas.

However, if you've never had a pellet grill, you will find that to use it as a grill will likely disappoint. I use it exclusively as a smoker.
If you live in a seasonal climate, that could mean A LOT of pellets to grill in the cold... and without a thermal blanket I'm not sure the pellet grill could get up to grilling temps in the cold.
Nothing beats wood, charcoal, or propane for grilling in the cold.

Any suggestions on a better choice?

I like the Yoder option better of the two. However if you’re willing to go up to 2k or even $2500 as you mentioned, I wouldn’t rule out a Memphis or MAK.

the MAK is a nice unit for sure! personally I could part with the $$ for one.

I would check out the Recteq grills and smokers. I love my Bullseye which will low and slow at 180 degrees up to 700+ degrees for searing. recteq.com
