Hi!

I had an offset smoker for many years and it has seen better days. I was never really pleased with the quality of food that I smoked over my even older drum smoker. I am researching a lot of smokers out there and now I am confused. I like the Weber vertical smokers but after needed mods I read about to them it is out of my price range. I am looking to spend no more than $250 total on my next smoker. I then found the Dyna Glo Charcoal Smokers which is a vertical off set smoker. I like that but again needs mods to keep heat and I don't like the fire basket as I could not do a good set it and forget it method without refueling for a long smoke IMO.

What do you all recommend for a good quality smoker that is good at holding heat and able to do a long smoke without refueling?

I'm going to second Al on the WSM. It's maybe $50 more than you're looking for but for that you're getting one of the best charcoal smokers on the market. It will just about everything but a whole hog and do it well for years.
