Taking it to a new level (at least for me).
All I had to do was spend $3,000 for a new living room floor for the Mrs. to get a $300 smoker! Wait....:icon_eek:
I know, it's not a Yoder or a Lang, but I'll bet I can make it work just fine with a little help from my SMF friends!
I already promised to get rid of the 20yr old Weber kettle. Now I just need to figure out how to keep the MB gasser, which with the mailbox, is great for sausage & cheese.
Maybe a new couch....

Most importantly, make sure that you get all of the joints sealed well when you're putting it together. Enjoy your new toy. You will really like stick burning.

Cool     Lets see some smoke

SM,

I would check with the manufacture, i would be concerned that it is toxic inside the box anywhere food items or flames are present. on the outside of the box might be fine but then might not look that nice

It's toxic as He** while it's wet, OS, but dries hard as rock and is rated for indoor applications. It is ugly. I'll check it out more. I'm in no hurry and want to do this right.

Thanks,

Dan

I'm  a Carpenter with knowledge of fire ratings in construction . That product is more of a smoke seal for interior walls . It's water base , so will not hold up outside . Most of the 1 and 2 hour rated caulks will swell up to 3 times the size of the bead when exsposed to heat . I want to say 250 degrees , but not sure . Worked on the mailbox because of the low temp .

I would not use anything like that where food was involved .

Thanks. I'll check a fireplace shop not far from me that also deals in smokers. Maybe they have something.

SM,

you might check out the use of the metal tape (that Heating & Air use) for sealing up their vents. the tape should work if the adhesive will hold up to the temps you might be using. the tape is quick, simple and fast. the adhesive is the wild card.

OS.

Richie,

sorry to get off topic but thought this might be helpful,

Just a heads up,,keep plenty of sharp carbide blades (Freud makes the best i found) the coating (aluminum Oxide) on laminates tears a blade up

Oh, I'm not installing it, Richie! A retired neighbor is doing it. He's done work for a couple of people in the neighborhood and does really good work for cash. In fact, the Mrs wants me not around while it's being done (I'd just get in the way, I guess), so we scheduled for while I'll be out of town for a week [emoji]128578[/emoji]
Hard floors seem to be the new "in" thing....She's replacing carpet in the living room and hall with tile.
Good luck with the install.

       Keep on smokin'                            Ed

Permatex it is. I've seen several references to it.
I'm impressed at how well everything is fitting on this. I couldn't find anywhere that said "Made In China". Even the instructions were in good English!

Thanks to Mr. Tingle the welder at work I have baffle and extra plates for tuning and a very nice charcoal basket.
I got some chunks to try it out 'til I can find some real wood.
AllI need now is a couple of days when it's not raining and I'm not working. Maybe April (sigh...)
Thanks, all, for the input, and I'll be posting the first cook in a new thread.
