You should just get a Maverick ET-732, it is a digital with 2 probes, 1 for the smoker temp and 1 for meat temp. It even has a programmable remote so you can monitor temps up to 100' away. It is a very popular therm around here and is on sale right now with free shipping from one of the forum sponsors, A-Maze_N Products.

Thanks S2K9K, I'll consider it. Any thoughts on Dial thermometers and were to get them at a good price? Thanks...

for a nice mechanical one, tru temps bq300 is awsome, I got the 3 inch glow dial for right at $50.00 with shipping and they are right on the money. I do use a didital probe, but a smoker just does not look right with out a nice big dial out front. And yes, the glow face does work and can be read easily at night 10 feet away

I have and have used a plephera of them. Now I havew found for the money the maverick is good but ost the most. It will cost you if the probe goes out or if anything happens to them. I also use Taylor now they aren't so proud (cost wise) their thermo meters and will do anything to keep you happy. I've called them trying to order new probes and they sent me 3 for free and that is something maverick will NOT do. The best is a instant read probe type like the Talyor model I have and a lot of folks here sware by the Thermo pen models for maybe 100 bucks. I hope this helps you.

River Country makes a good one in a number of different sizes and styles.  But as S2 mentioned earlier, your best bet for true pit temps is going with a Maverick or some other brand of digital therm.  I used River Country dial therms on my RF build, but rarely ever look at them, they are there for aesthetic purposes only , mainly because I could care less on what the temp is at the door, I want to know and cook by the temp in the center of my bottom grate.  So with the Maverick or another digital therm, you can simply slide the probe into a block of wood, potatoe, onion or Maverick comes with a grate clip.  But if you are like me and want the fninshed look, River Country therms have held up well for me and are fully adjustable to calibrate them if they get off.  I boil tested all 3 of mine and they were dead on when I got them in.

Wow; Thanks guys for all your input. I didn't realize how expensive these Thermometers were. I wanted to get 2 dial Thermometers and that would cost almost if not more then the Maverick ET-732.

Really didn't want to spend that much put I don't want to get a piece of crap either. O what to do.........

Firelock, here's my two cents...

I have a horizontal offset.  I installed two additional grate-level dial thermos into mine.  They work reasonably well, but at the end of the day, I still broke down and bought a Maverick ET-73 for about $30 off of Amazon.

It is true that digital thermos are more accurate.  It is also true that there are some good dial thermos out there.  At the end of the day, my advice...go with the digital.  Why?  Because if you upgrade to a new smoker, it's much easier to just pull your digital probe out of one and put it into the next.

Happy smoking!

Good point piaconis. Gona have to make a decision soon. I like the way the Dials look on the Smoker but I guess function before beauty. Lol....

Got to have cool looking dials , its a must. Tel-tru is probably about the best one out there, look on amazon and they have some good prices. The river Country ones are not bad either if you want to save a few bucks. But a smoker is not a smoker with out a dial on it.

My two cents worth.
