What's up, figured I'd introduce my n00b self here after lurking for a week. Got a Brinkmann vertical for Christmas, seasoning it right now. Noticed the temps are stalling around 170 or so, but I bought the basket ($4.19 on clearance at Lowes btw) to replace the current charcoal basket with no air holes. Hope to get my first pork butt on their this weekend.

Welcome bigdood - glad to have you with us on SMF. Congratulations on the new smoker. You are hooked now!!

Welcome to SMF , get ready to dive into Qview and take the FREE 5 Day eCourse ! The welcome wagon will be around soon . I mostly use an electric ECB . Congrats on finding this special place and tons of cooking info the RIGHT way .

I just thought about another way for you to get smoke - look for the posts on the minion method and set up the smoke portion that way - have not tried it but it might work just for the smoke not the heat

Welcome fellow Portlander! Oregon? Just be aware that if it is windy your temps will stall out like that, unless you can get a wind block set up. Cold you can work around, but wind is a killer. Hope to see some good Qview! Grats on your present and welcome to the forums!

Salutations Bigdood from Arizona.
