Good Afternoon Gentlemen,

After many years of fuddling around with every kind of cheap metal smokers possible I have had a big boy smoker built. I'm  very excited to finish it before blasting the surface and applying primer/paint then finally firing it up. My question is do I need to add a tuning plate. The guy that built my pit did a few great things but did some other things that drove me crazy.

Thanks for any advice or knowledge anyone can share!!

I would put a couple of therms at grate level to monitor temps while you season it.

If the temps are reasonably even across the grate, you would need no tuning plates.

Good luck and good smoking.

This will be my first time to actually season a pit what steps do I follow, or what do I beware of ?
