After much procrastination and pure laziness, I finally started my build. It is for sausage and plan to keep temps below 200 F. The pieces have been sitting in my garage for around 4 months now. Plan to use as little wood as possible. It will be 30 x 30 outside dims so it will fit thru a 36” door. Height will vary from 5’4” front and slope to 5’ in back. Plan on using a Propane burner for heat hooked up to a pid , thermocouple, and needle valves.

Had some 5/8” osb laying around for the base. Cut some 2x6 squares to mount casters to. Debating on adding framing around the base. It will be pretty heavy when done, so likely will.

Using metal 20 ga studs for framing. Mostly framed up. Still need to sister some in so can screw the hardibacker to it on the ceiling.

This is like a cliffhanger episode, I usually know what’s coming next, but this one has me scratching my head. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the story. Good luck!

I built a cerakote oven of the exact same design. Plywood outside sheetmetal interior with a stove eye for heating element.

Following as well.
You want a very stout and heavy base for a portable structure.
This summer I hope to finish a lot of started projects. My Westinghouse fridge conversion to a smoker tops the list for me. New windows and residing the house is my wife's priority. Guess which priority wins?

You are a braver man than me, sir. Much, much braver!

I want my smoker build to not only be move around sturdy, but fully move sturdy.
I've got 3/4" Blandex (company that developed oriented strand board {osb}) in the garage.
I'll probably just perimeter with 1x6 to anchor my casters.

You're assuming my priority wasn't trumped?
I'll do the house projects and hope for rainy days to work on my smoker. We're planning to get the house ready for the market so we can move. Probably not this summer as we need to find a place to move and it may require build over just purchase.

Good luck with the house upgrades. I did that on my house in Aurora, CO. Big project to do by yourself. I only had help setting the first row of siding. Took me a few months working every weekend. I tore off the old pressboard siding that was falling apart. Made it easier to remove the old windows and install the new ones and could add Tyvek wrap too. Glad to be in a different point in life now, paid someone to tear off the siding on front of house in now and stucco it while I watched.

The low pressure burner arrived in the mail on Saturday after waiting almost 6 weeks for it. It is a 40k btu Tejas low pressure burner. Looks well constructed. Should be plenty to maintain the temps I need for the volume of smoker. It will be insualted too, so that will help.

I am going to add 2x4 around the base, just have to figure out how I want to do it since the framing is mostly done now and casters will interfere with it. Didnt work on it Sunday. Installed a dust collector system to my mitre saw since it makes a huge mess everytime I use it, a little shopping and hit some golf balls. Been trying to fix my golf swing since it has been horrendous the past two years. Did some online lessons a couple years ago that completely screwed it up. Think I figured out the problems (yes more than one) but takes a lot of reps to weed out the bad swing habits.

Beer helps my golf game tremendously!

Worked on it a little today.

Added a 2x4 around base. Toe nailed into the corner pieces. I couldnt remove them without taking the whole metal frame off. Added an extra 2x6 piece and 5/8 osb to raise the castors so it didnt hit.

Sistered in a 2x4 in each side of doorway so hinges and latches have something more substantial to anchor into. Looked at several options and different anchors to keep all metal but decided this was best option . Cut them down to fit.

Filled the void inside the sistered pieces with rock wool.

Trying to decide what to clad the outside with. Any suggestions?

Hoping to be able to work some on it next weekend. Headed to AZ tomorrow for golf time for a few days and see a good friend.
