I've been grinding my own hamburger and some sausage for years now. I use a meat grinder attachment for the Kitchenaid Mixer. I have just plan worn the knife blade out. My wife went on line and ordered me two new knife blades that were Kitchenaid replacements and had the original Kitchenaid part number.

We got the blades in, and they are albeit the same size but a very light weight blade. She then wrote them inquiring that these can’t be “Kitchenaid” parts as they appear to be inferior to the original. They wrote back saying they were “Kitchenaid” parts and “…this is only blade kitchenaid makes for the meat grinder, your right its cheap and not like the original send it back and I will issue a full refund and your shipping cost..

Not that this meat grinder owes me anything as I can’t even estimate the number of pounds of burger its gone through but I hate tossing it all because one blade just won’t sharpen any longer.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a good meat grinder? Thanks for listening to my rant and next time your investing in Kitchenaid… remember caveat emptor.

Been there, had a KitchenAid and used it for several years too.  I'm  professional meatcutter 30+ years and know a little about grinders, so I wanted a home unit that would go the mile; I chose a 1 hp Cabela's grinder and a 15 lb. Northern Tool stuffer.  I decided on the 1 hp minimum grinder as that is powerful enough to also power the 40 lb. mixer.  I didn't buy the mixer yet, but didn't want to limit myself in the future so the additional cost to go up to the 1 hp is minimal.   Retirement is coming someday soon and hopefully my needs will increase when I have more time to enjoy the hobby with my kids and grandkids, and a 40 lb. mixer in a few years sounds like a dream to use and save strength (plus now have effects of two strokes too).

Couldn't you just go to a butcher / sausage supply and order a quality blade or does kitchenaid make them to there own specs?

Once you get a grinder designed for the job you will wonder why you messed with the kitchenaid so long.  You will grind faster, have fewer stuff ups and since you are grinding faster the meat will stay cold.   Kitchen aid is great for a couple of pounds at a time, once in a while.  I have learned to do 20 or 30 lbs at a time, vacuum pack and freeze so I am so glad I bought a larger grinder and stuffer.
