SC, just a smidge from Charlotte
Welp, I've now killed 2 KitchenAid mixers. The one I got for Christmas is a bowl lift model. I just went to make a batch of cookies, raised the little crank to lift and lock the bowl into place, and something in it broke. Turned it over to see what I could see and there's a little piece of broken plastic underneath it. Looking up the column I can see the little locking mechanism and where the cheap plastic broke. I've used it about 5 times.

Called KitchenAid, customer service was fast and I'm getting a whole new unit in about a week. Not particularly tickled that the plastic (I don't think it's nylon, really just feels like plastic) locking mechanism broke THAT fast. I see they sell those pieces on Amazon, aftermarket chinesium stuff so it must be a somewhat common malfunction.

Anyone else with a bowl lift have this problem? I'll sell that son of a gun on Marketplace NIB and buy a tilt head if bowl lifts are prone to that problem.

Good they're sending a new one . Hope it was just a faulty unit . I bought 2 last year for Christmas presents . No issues so far . My Son uses his quite a bit . No issues so far .

We’re still using our Hamilton Beach mixer that was a wedding present 44 years ago!
Good to hear CS is standing behind their product.

Check out the Brevel or KA tilt head. I have a refurb KA that is at least 25 years old. Bought a newer one last year that make terrible grinding noises right out of the box. Sent it back. I think their quality is dropping fast.

I've heard the quality of KA dropped after they moved the manufacturing.
We initial purchased a bowl lift 30 years and wife didn't like it plus it just didn't fit the kitchen. Returned it for a tilt head and been flawless for those 30 years. It got used a lot for many years.

I picked up a Kitchenaid 550 Pro HD from Costco about 15 years ago. $275 CAD or something like that. Wife made a lot of cakes with it when she was doing custom cakes, I've made lots of bread with it. We've got the pasta attachment and I even tried the grinder attachment, which was promptly returned. Now I basically use it for occasional loaves of bread and for mixing spices into sausages.

Never given me an issue.
