I gotta agree with Dan on this one. I think the rep points and OTBS status are helpful to the new folks when it comes to judging the credibility of the information. I mean, let's face it, every once in awhile someone answers a question with some ridiculous off the wall comment based on opinion and not experience, which sometimes are downright dangerous.. Usually a more experienced member will come along and correct them, but without the "added credentials" that rep points and OTBS logo provides, it's sometimes a crap shoot.
Having said all of that, I fully realize that there may also be new members here who have been smoking for years and years and may have just recently discovered the forum. But it shouldn't take long for those members' posts to be recognized with "points" giving them credibility as well. I also realize that just putting up a lot of posts will earn you points. But I think most of the members with tons of points got them from other members and not just by post pumping.
