When I make sausage, I never seem to have enough room in the refrigerator or freezer to keep everything the way I like it, so I’d wind up having to use ice chest, which is a problem for me……About a month ago I called and asked about this broken ice machine. The guy almost let me have it……Said that it did not work and really just wanted it gone, but his boss said that he could not “give it away”…….So after a little haggling, it’s on my back porch…….After a little poking around, there were 2 broken refrigerate lines that were easy enough to fix, for an AC guy…..I had to do a little door work, but again no problem for the Sheet Metal side of me either. Now the doors close and work fine beside the sticker on the one door being upside down.  Since this picture I’ve had it running for several hours just to see how cold it would get, I had it down to 36, but I still think it needs to get down a little colder than that…..I’m still trying to get that taken care of before I call it fixed……I’m thinking about using an adjustable thermostat on it so I can dial it in just so….. My intent is to set it up so I can use it for a cooler or a freezer ……. If I can get it going I think I’ll have plenty of room to keep my meat now!!!!!  Thanks for looking ShoneyBoy

GREAT FIND!  Skills are a great thing to have ain 't they?  Makes you wonder how the rest of the population gets along!  Welder/fabricator by trade.  Dad was a petrol/diesel mechanic.  I can turn my hand to almost anything as I am sure you do.  Let us know how it goes.  Keep Smokin!

Nice!  From an old AC guy...great find.

A lot of those old refrigeration units like that have steel lines...I hope you didn't have to deal with that!!!

Shoney.. I've read post's before where people have used a freezer for a refrigerator.. they just used something like a PID controller.. said it is much more energy efficient... So maybe get it working properly (freezing) and use a controller to control the temps.. just a thought...

I don't think that's going to be big enough for all the butts you buy SB!!!! You might need to get another one!
Great find and getting it on the cheap and fixing it yourself is the only way to go!!!

Very cool you wanna bring it over to me for hunting season

Danny, I was formally trained as an industrial fabricator, doing Sheet Metal work was a step back and so much easier for me to do these days......If it is made out of metal, I can build it!!! Now, can you afford me is an entirely different question........

Bill, it does have a steel coil, but the line set is copper.....For some reason they had about an extra foot of liquid line welded in....It seems like someone was trying to repair it, but did not know how or what to do.......So far all I found was the flared fitting was bent and it was leaking around it and I found a crack in the liquid line was cracked, a quick weld job and I'm holding good so far.....

David, Well that is kind of why I had to find something bigger, my wife has banded me from buying anything else to put in the freezer.......We had to rest a chair against the door about a week ago. The freezer has a hi temperature alarm that went off in the middle of the night.......I had just mad a trip to Sam's and well kinda bought some baby back ribs that keep knocking the door open.........All I heard was, YOU better make that thing stop making noise, I'm trying to sleep......
