That time of year again šŸ˜‚ being transferred to St. Louis Missouri. 4th move in 3 years. I’m looking for anyone familiar with the area on nice areas to live around St. Louis. We are looking into Scott AFB housing on the Illinois side but also looking for nice areas on the economy within a 35 minute drive to St. Louis. We’ll have one of our daughters in High School and younger daughter and son in elementary school. So any info or anything on the area I’m willing to listen to.

Havent lived there in over 30 years so not much help. I would say, have several good options on the IL side, Collinsville, Fairview Heights, Belleville, O'Fallon plus several small towns. On Mo side you are probably going to consider south county Arnold, Kirkwood, Fenton. Parents and sister are still in north county, but not sure I would recommend that area. If looking at more ritzy area, Chesterfield, Frontenac, Des Peres. Town and Country, Ladue.

Stay on the Missouri side. Illinois is anti-gun (not being political here) and they will put you in prison for defending yourself and your home and family. Not to mention the hoops you have to jump through in order to purchase a firearm, get a carry permit and all that. Illinois is a just a serious headache plus the taxes are horrendous!

Missouri side is Constitutional Carry. No hassles on what you purchase or own. Suburbs of St. Louis aren't bad. Just stay away from St. Louis city limits proper.

St. Peters, O'Fallon, Wentzville on the west side are all nice.

Fenton, Arnold, High Ride, Imperial on the south side.

Not very many options to the north.

I would look for a few acres on land. Avoid the subdivisions and HOA's. Too much Karenology.

Most people I know base where they live on the School district .

SmokingUPnorth SmokingUPnorth I've been in the area all my life . Worked all over the area on both sides of the river . I'm currently in St. Charles county , north side of O Fallon .
PM me and I can answer your questions based on what your thoughts are .

Speaking for someone who comes from a colder climate. It's F'ING HOT in the St.Louis area. I never took so many cold showers in my life. The Heat/Humidity combo really sucks there.

I am a boomer STL native but moved away back in the 1980's so my info is a we-bit dated.
chopsaw chopsaw is your present-day STL info-source

If you want to be a "true St. Louisan"
  • Root for the Cardinals
  • Root for the Blues
  • Root for any team that plays the Rams
Goooooo Redbirds! šŸ™ŒšŸ»

I went to my first game at Busch Stadium in July of 2023. It was a Redbird winner over the Cubs (which really made my day).

Been gone from STL since graduated HS back in '87. Still a cards and blues fan. my avatar is the busch stadium 3. I went to the first game played there. Was a madhouse but a great time. Was in town working on the I-64 resconstruction project for 6 months. Dont be stunned when they start asking where you went to HS. It is a STL thing.

Ha you boys are too close to home - grew older (not up lol) in Spanish lake- graduated from hazelwood east in 88. Most of the family now live up by chopsaw chopsaw but I’m several hours south now.

SmokingUPnorth SmokingUPnorth I won’t repeat all the good info above but it’s all solid info

Been in south county 58 years. Taxes are stupid on IL side as mentioned. If you watch one min of STL news you will realize to STAY OUT OF THE CITY AND EAST SIDE. EVERY DAY MANY SHOOTINGS AND DEATHS! County is safe and good school districts. Lindbergh is highly rated. If you come across the Jefferson Barracks bridge stay on south side of 255.One mile into MO and both sides have good school districts up past highway 70. St louis county has good people and nice place to live. As others have posted going further west is nice also just further drive for you.
