Hey guys.  I've looked at some of the mods suggested and I'll be getting to work on that.  I bought the grill I mentioned above on craigslist and it needs refinishing.  I've prepped it and was getting ready to paint it flat black but thought, "why not combine my passions for cooking and sports."  I'd like to paint it purple for my Minnesota Vikings but am having a hard time finding High heat paint for it.

There's engine paint but it only will hold up to intermittent heat up to 600.  I know I'm going to be smoking at a much lower temp, but if I decide to do some good high heat grilling, I'm afraid it won't hold up.

Suggestions?

right but i'm looking for it in purple, which as far as I can tell, limits me to engine paint which has a much lower temp tolerance.

I wonder if a few coats of 1200* paint topped with the 600* purple would help it's durability? Just a thought. I've painted many engines with engine paint and I know exhaust manifolds and headers get way over 600* and sometimes are very close to the paint and I've never seen any issues with paint peeling or blistering. I think I would give it a shot if that was the color I really wanted.

Just so you know I moved your thread to the "Charcoal Smokers" forum, I think you will get better exposure and more responses over here,

that just might work.  Thanks for moving my thread to a better spot.  I'll post pix if I decide to go that route. Thanks again
