As most everyone knows, my MES died a couple weeks ago. The first incident happened in May, while smoking kielbasa, when after a couple hours the cabinet temp started dropping although the heating light was on. I reset it and no problem until it started doing the same thing in August. I have read some other members have had similar incidents and now wonder if this is a widespread problem with these units. The model # for mine is 20070211.
I contacted MB via email and was very impressed with the service and a replacement element was sent out. I received it on August 23 and installed it August 24...still did not heat up. Contacted MB via phone (closed til Monday) so I emailed the results the replacement element. No reply by Tuesday, so I telephoned them and was told a new body will be shipped as there is more than likely a wiring issue inside. She said the tracking # would be emailed to me...to date I have not received an email with the tracking # (and I'm okay with that).
I did however receive an email response to the New Element Issue email...and I have to tell you I was a bit put off by it for a couple reasons.
1. She implied I was ignorant to the operation of the unit...specifically "Can you verify if you pressed the temp set key twice to lock in the temperature? If so, it is possible the replacement element is defective. I'll be happy to replace your order for you."
2. I'm getting a reply nearly a week after sending my email.
I called MB and was told the body had shipped and was given the tracking #.
I tried it again yesterday out of curiosity - set the temp for 160*, set the time and it started heating up and got to 160* on the display. I then bumped it to 200* so I could check the actual temp in the cabinet and within minutes it promptly started dropping temp although the heating light was on. Same thing this morning. MB confirmed it is a wiring issue in the body.
Just a heads up for anyone else experiencing the temp/heating issues.
