Hey guys,

So as some of you know; I've owned my MeS 30 for about a month or so now. I got it around Thanksgiving. So far, its been great. I had a little fire issue where the wood lit on fire. But I resolved that issue by not adding in so many wood chips at once. Besides that, everything has been good.

So yesterday, I smoked a pork loin for my work as they have a potluck. The loin came out fantastic!

But here is where my issue is...

So yesterday, for about a good hour; I couldn't get my wood chips to smolder. I wasn't getting much smoke. I typically don't have that issue as I've used this smoker several times now. I eventually got it to smolder and smolder really nice but it took after the first hour of course. Once the wood started to smolder, I eventually was able to keep it going. Then, I missed the window of adding more wood chips and the ignited wood died out. The new added wood didn't even smolder. Is this because the bed of ash wasn't ignited/red?

What I want to know is, did I do something wrong? Or, is my unit starting to get defective? I only ask this because I've read other people having issues with their heating elements after a while...

My unit was still heating up and the loin still cooked thoroughly. I wanted to ask you guys for your opinion because I bought it from Amazon. Amazon will allow me to return it up till the end of January.

Thank you for everyone's help! Please help me with this... I really don't want my $200.00 going down the drain... Especially since I can still return it.

Sometimes you have to adjust your tabs holding the chip tray lower to get the tray closer to the element. You will get the best smoke when the element is in a heat cycle.

Years ago I bought a Amazen smoke generator and never looked back...I personally love the sawdust for these smoke generators...the really make smoking with a MES set it and forget it.

Thank you for the information gotarace. I think the tabs area already good. I'm not sure what I did wrong because it smoked perfectly fine before. I guess I will try it again this weekend and see what happens. I've been advised about the AMAZN product. So I will definitely look into that as well. I just want to make sure my heating element is going bad...

Couldn't you put a Pyrex measuring cup with water in the smoker and check the temperature against what the smoker is telling you?

I probably can do that. Do you think there's an issue with my smoker?? I have until the end of January to return it...
