Gonna build a charcoal box this afternoon and was wondering if I should put dividers in it? Read somewhere on her stick with what works for you but have neither so I'm starting from scratch. Its a brinkman smoke-n-pit.

The maze is a good idea! I like it and feel like it has a purpose. I feel like it makes better use and can sorta regulate the smoke alittle better than just an open box.... But it is a personal preference. Seems like you use less and have the option of lighting the other end to get more smoke if you want.

i have to agree the maze is great. i have both tube and a-maze-n pellet model. they work great for me. wouldn't go back in time for anything.great bang for the buck. light it and walk away....then come enjoy the great smoke flavor.

Since the size of your Side Fire Box is relatively small you will find a Maze shaped charcoal basket will give a slower more controlled burn of the Charcoal Briquettes or Lump and Wood Chunks. It will burn in a similar manner to the Minnion method but will keep the number of burning coals limited to just a few. This will be great for Cool smoking, say 150*F for Cured Sausage or Ham but I am curious if there will be enough coals burning to get into the 225 to 300*F range. I have had to have Half the charcoal in my SFB going to reach these temps. If you have sufficient material make one Maze and one Open Charcoal Basket...JJ

Looks like a nice maze

The metal divider may not keep the charcoal on the other side from igniting.  You may have to add another divider, but space it about 1" away

Charcoal mazes have been out for a few years

They cost about $125 + shipping

You can make one for about $20

Mine cost me about 45 bucks. Picked everything up from home depot. Took about an hour to put together. If I could weld coulda left out alot of materials.
