I did not soak mine just put them in dry and cure away. You are going to love the MES40 I do mine. ENJOY
 
I never soaked mine, I also used pellets & chunks occasionally. Then I got an AMNS, and never messed with chips, chunks or pellets again.
 
I soaked my chips the first time I used my first MES. Never again.

I also never put more than a few chips or a chunk or two in at a time in.

That way if it starts smoking too much, it won't last long.

But best of all was when I got an AMNS, and some wood dust!!!

Been sooo easy to smoke since that.
