Do not ever ever use a mandoline slicer with out the safety guard no matter how careful you think you are! Potato got caught up and hand kept going. Took hour using Styptic powder to stop bleeding

DONE THAT!
As my grandfather told me a 6 when he showed me how to use the wood splitter (different times, pry have CPS at the house now) it doesn’t know the difference between wood and your fingers.

The good news is you will always have the scar to remind you not to do that again lol

That’s all well and good for my big stainless one with all the bells and whistles, but for my plastic one with the ceramic blade that cuts both ways, not really an option.
I have a couple of Kevlar gloves that I let the kids use when they’re making potato gratins etc, but being careful is paramount.

Glad you are still with us...

Mandoline last 4th of July...after I told my wife it was dangerous and showed her the proper way to use it...

I've known quite a few people with stories like this. So, when I got my first mandoline three years ago, I bought the no-cut gloves. I won't touch the thing unless I'm wearing them, unless the item can be completely cut with the holder, like a potato or onion. I also sometimes use the gloves when operating my Chef's Choice slicer, when I have to hold the meat (for small pieces).

The ones I got aren't made anymore, so if someone has a good suggestion on the most effective gloves to get, I'd love to know.

I'd be interested in that. I assume that something designed for fish would have the ability to rinse out most of the stink. The ones I have are somewhat "furry" and trap even modest smells from vegetables.

I wonder if you could shuck oysters with your glove. I've always used an old leather gardening glove, but I've always thought that if I slipped, it might not provide much protection.

Wow, that IS expensive !! $193 for a single glove. I found a seller on Amazon selling it for a mere $101:

Dexter Russell 82063 SAF-T-GARD Stainless Steel Mesh Glove

I am still really happy you provided the link since I didn't know you could buy stainless mesh instead of cut-resistant cloth. Knowing what product features to look for, a little searching turned up another stainless glove, but for only $16:

Schwer Cut Resistant Glove-Stainless Steel Wire Metal Mesh Butcher Safety Work Glove for Meat Cutting, fishing(Medium)

When I roll over the image, the construction looks to be similar. Do you suppose it would function the same?

I can't believe the pricing for the other one. Is it possible that even though the quantity says "1" that this is for one box of a dozen?

Says item , 1 , item weight 1.28 oz . Sounds like one glove .
Be worth the money if you were doing it 40 hours a week .

It has happen to us all never can be to safe. For some reason we will take a chance and the end result is never good.

We have level 5 cut resistant gloves at work. Saved me from some nasty cuts in the past when clearing a glass jam on a capper or filler. I believe they are around 20.00 for a pair.

A Buddy of mine wore those gloves every day for years---D-Boning Hams for "Hatfield Meats".
He was also my Barber for 46 years, so they must work pretty good.

Well......Dexter is the "yeti" of the knife world for filleting fish so I'm sure you are paying for the name. I've not looked into other brands, but as long as the specs. are the same, it should work well. I paid $28 bucks for mine way back when.....
