So we had severe and very heavy thunderstorms for most of the late afternoon and night yesterday. Here where I am we got 2.5 inches of rainfall.

Add that rain to the Waldo Canyon Wildfire Burn Scar and you have major problems. It already happened 3 weeks ago, with flooding and mudslides. So a repeat performance happened last evening - not one but several mudslides onto the main highway between me and Colorado Springs on Highway 24. The highway was closed for about 12 hrs.

Guess this guy thought he was invincible or something! I read he was pulling a trailer too - it's totally gone, The driver and son got out safely.

Here's few more

and last, there was so much hail (pea size to nickel size here, and it looked like snow on Pikes Peak

WOW!

I don't deal with that type of flash flooding and or mud slides. But is it possible that he got caught in a mud slide or did he try to go through an area that was already effected. I know I sound stupid, but I have no clue on how the warnings and actual events will take course. Here in Central Florida when we get a lot of rain after a long dry spell, you will see a lot of sink holes show up, but you don't really know where they will happen. We have areas that are prone to them, but you never know where they will show up.

Never the less glad to hear they were ok. It is amazing what nature is capable of.

From what I heard on the news, and as you can see in some of the other photos, people were trying to drive through it and probably got caught with one huge mud flow. There was a mudslide in the same area 3 weeks ago. This highway is the primary road between Woodland Park and other communities and Colorado Springs. There is a creek to the south of where I live and in the 12 yrs I've been here, I've only seen water in it a few times and not deep at all. Last night it was at the top and raging. Still more rain forecast for the next several days.

This is a result of the wildfire that was burning towards where I live and a thunderstorm came from the west, winds changed and blew it back into Colorado Springs, where it burnt 346 homes. I was evacuated as were about 40,000 other folks.

We had the same thing happen after the big fires in So Cal a few years ago. I always want to ask these folks if they are MO or RON because they are not smart enough to be MORON

It also makes me wonder!  We have problems in the winter with blizzards here.  When it gets bad the highways are closed.  Many people go around the gates and end up in the middle of nowhere stuck in snow or in the ditch.  The fine for going around the gates is $500, and I guess some people have more money than brains.  I can understand getting caught in an unexpected disaster, but not when the warning signs are visible ie: storm clouds etc.  Yes, what are people thinking?  Steve

Ah yes they do the same here. I don't know what the fine is, but it doesn't stop some.
