I've had my New Braunfels Silver Smoker for 11 or 12 years, and never knew I could do anything to improve it, but then I found this forum.  I've made several modifications, over the past few months, and now it's better than ever.  The first things I did was extended the smoke stack down to grate level, installed a new thermometer at grate level, and made the hole between the firebox and chamber smaller.  Next, I got a charcoal basket, which really helped out.  A couple days ago, I got some fire bricks, and put them across the bottom of the chamber. I just fired it up, not too long ago, and temps are holding steady all the way across.  Thanks to everyone who has put suggestions on how to modify an offset.
