Wife and I are on the shores of Lake Erie, Camping. What a relief to get out of the sweltering heat and into a cool lake breeze. What a difference 100 miles makes. We were struggling to get the trailer packed for our fishing trip.

Decided to smoke a little something in my PK Go grill.

Just a tease...will flip the lid in a short while.

You and me both . I retired at 58 in 2017 - 18 . I worked 38 hours in 2018 .
Anyway , I love it too . I hear people say " I'll need something to do , and talk about working part time . ARE YOU NUTS !! Not for me .
Looks like a great spot you're at . Enjoy .

Can't wait... 15 months to go... Only one more hot summer that I HAVE TO work in... And I'll be damned if I'm gonna work part time, I hope, The way things are going right now with SS. Medicare/aid who knows what's gonna happen... If so, it's gonna be on the roadside somewhere with the tractor smoker and selling BBQ...

Retirement really crept up on me. Got offered a buy out when I was 61 yo (2018) My loving wife and best friend said take it and we will figure things out. I never looked back, been staying busy.
Our lives really changed when we bought a travel trailer in 2021. We always talked about traveling during our working years and now we are doing it.

Just today we booked another week at a close-by campground, spur of the moment decision. We have some working friends who we want to visit with so we accommodated their schedule.

This little cast aluminum grill is so versatile.

Smoking half a bologna chub for snacks tomorrow. Just a few coals and some wood chunks. This will cruise along at about 230-300F depending on vent settings.

Drizzle a little BBQ sauce on the Bologna Blossom.
Thanks for riding along with me. Now we going to get some serious relaxation done!!

You had me with your thread title! (Me too, Brother!)

Amen Brother! I get that from people all the time..."don't you go crazy with nothing to do??"

I worked a high pressure, PIA job. Minimum 60 hour weeks - more often like 75 hour weeks, for 30 years. I'm retired now...I DON'T NEED SOMETHING TO DO...except enjoy retirement and do whatever the heck I want! I fish, I play golf, I piddle in my metal shop, I take care of my property...I don't understand why so many people are convinced I am somehow unfulfilled because I no longer drag my miserable butt outta bed and go to a job every day...

Been semi retired for a number of years.
We rotate between our house in MN to an apartment in FL.
Joined the fully retired club last month as I started my SS payback at 66 & 8 months.
The word "entitlement" really chaps my hide. I and my employers paid into SS for over 50 years and our elected officials and government employees call it entitlement?

Yes sir sounds a lot like my career. Work long and crazy hours. Traveled was away from the family too much (in retrospect).

We are so fulfilled, doing a lot of things for others, sharing while we can. Taking tome to enjoy each other and travel to connect with long last friends.

FA, Yes paid into that too much. You know a lot of the entitled complain and are unhappy. To tell you the truth, our benefits both SS and Medicare are a good gig. Medicare picked up the 98% of my hernia surgery. We are a rich country, I thank God each and every day.

I retired 4 months ago and now so much to do with not enough days in the week.
Congrats and make every day count!

Man Y'all are makin me jealous!
One of these days I'll be there. I'm happy for y'all.

The major concern in retirement is staying healthy. Both to be able to enjoy and that medical bills don't rob your savings.

Message to the younger people, start paying attention to your health when you're young.

Excellent advice!

And another message to younger workers: Save as much as you can afford into any kind of retirement account, and start as early as possible. Sadly, I know too many people my age who simply can't afford to retire because they have no pension, no nest egg, and can't afford to lose their health insurance.

Been free of the grind for just over 7yrs after 30 yrs in the Railroad Industry. Fishing and golf occupy most of my time.

Before coming to this page today ( Im at work now), I added a countdown widget to my phone. I just passed 20 yrs at my current gig and have 3 years left till I can pull the pin.
I was always scared when I was younger and hearing stories from my dad that so many of his co workers worked till 65 ( that was the norm back in his day) that so many guys would retire with their pensions and then have nothing to do in retirement and they died only a few short years into it. I didnt want to go down that path.
I decided a long time ago that I would retire when I could financially, and then take a side gig doing a mindless job for 2-3 days a week for a sense of purpose. Picture a NAPA driver, dealership courtesy driver, casino worker, golf course starter, so many options.
I have no kids, no nieces or nephews, so I have no one to leave anything to so I might as well spend it all.
I will retire at 57 with a pension. "Work" until 60. Sell my house at 60. Which will give me a substantial bank account, and move into a luxury apartment with the wife. I will pay our rent with said bank account and she will pay the bills. I will be able to live off the pension, OAS and CPP easily.
As of today 1104 days left.
