After I read Jeff's article on this last week, I knew I had to try it. I had never smoked a turkey on my offset smoker and was a little nervous.  I had a couple observations....

1)  The butter compound is a little difficult to stick on the turkey.

2)  Once I did get it to stick on the bird, it would cool and harden.

3)  If you touched the hardened butter compound on the turkey, it would stick to you and pull off the turkey.

Here is my setup....

brine and chillin

Ready for butter...

You can see my butter struggle.....

Fire box was roaring....

Day light setup....

3 hours in.....

5.5 hours for a 13.5 lbs bird....

Turned out great....

Carving time....

They didn't take all the break down....

Plating wasn't beautiful, but the flavor was amazing....

Overall, I would rate this turkey as a huge success. The flavor was amazing. The smoke went quicker than I expected. My coworkers destroyed everything.....only thing that survived was the legs.....not enough left over to make a sandwich.

Your turkey looks fantastic!

Especially for a first try!

Great job!

Point!
