Good morning.

I currently have a Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker 18 Inch Smoker but I am looking to get my first propane smoker. These two smokers keep coming up in reviews:

1. Masterbuilt GS30D Propane 2-Door Smoker

2. Smoke Hollow 38202G 38-Inch 2-Door Propane Gas Smoker

Which of these would you recommend or are there others you suggest?

Thanks for your time.

I didn't like my charcoal smoker at all and went to MS dual fuel. Liked it but temps were wild and it took alot of tweaking. I snagged an MES for $99 on a Black Friday sale and love that thing to death. I used it 10x more than I ever did my gasser. Check out the AMNPS too. Best of luck and welcome to SMF!

Check the burners to see if some of the holes in the burners can be easily plugged like the burners below...
Then a needle valve, to control the propane flow should be installed between the propane regulator and burner...
That is so you can lower the temperature in the smoker for cooler smokes....
The unit should also have flame out protection... A valve that shuts off the propane flow in the event the flame goes out...

I've had a Camp chef 24 for years & it's a great smoker.
But I really like the looks of the Smoke Hollow, & if my Camp Chef ever gives up.
I think I may go with the Smoke Hollow, at least look at it a little closer.

I have used that Smoke hollow smoker for at least 3 years now and love it. It holds temperatures very well for me. I started out using the chip pan but switched to the A-maze-n oval tube smoker and never looked back. The tube lasts about 6 hours for me. I have done many overnight butt smokes with great success. Of course I have a temp probe for the chamber and the meat. I have cold smoked cheese and bacon many times. I have used it to smoke sausages and snack sticks. Don't know if it is the right thing to do but I turn the gas control knob toward the off position to hold the lower temps. I have put some wind guards around the bottom when it is windy to insure it doesn't blow out the flame. Holds lots of food.

One of my sons has the GS30D smoker and loves it. He's had for over two years now. He did install wheels on the unit to make it easier to move around. There was also a suggested modification he did with ceramic brickets that I can't completely remember - damn CRS. But the mod does improve performance. He does have a remote temp monitor to keep the temperature as stable as possible. Last time we were up north, he did a ribs, corn and asparagus meal. Great meal by the way!

I got a Masterbuilt Thermotemp propane smoker for Christmas. Works great and temperature stays constant.

P PapaJJ little late but love my SH 38” two door. Two door has been a game changer for keeping in heat and being able to mess with the wood chip tray and water pan. Still holding strong after two years of outdoor upstate NY conditions.
