Looking to buy a smoker?

I got the chance to buy a smoker that I've always wanted! What would you buy? Got a $4,000 budget to buy with.

I would by the smoker I always wanted with $4000 and spend the rest on Tennessee whiskey or Single malt.....

Unless you're cooking for 200 people you can get incredible smokers for $400 and less.

Just comes down to size....$'s spent doesn't equal quality by no means. Keep savings for meat and beer!

$4 k would buy a fair bit of steel and a LOT of tools...just sayin'!

If you really wanna spend that much....I would look at the Jambos, the Lang's or the Meadowcreeks.

OR...you could have someone build you a totally awesome one!

I got small smokers for home. I need one to do from 50 to 250 people.

Plus it's a gift from my sister in law. My brother was murdered in his pharmacy last month by a drugged up pain pill addicted ex-cop. It was something he wanted me to have because it's all I've talked about for the last ten years.

are you partial to tending or set and forget?

is this for actual restaurant or just large gatherings?

patio style or on a trailer?

do you like to cook with water?

are you a low and slow or hot and fast cook?

that should cover the basics on where to point you.

looks like it is still available. it's a lang 108 looks like a restaurant setup in TN.

and i must have missed that one post earlier. Very sorry for your loss and hope that you enjoy every minute of smoking on your, what we can assume will be, AWESOME smoker. and there are companies out there that will do custom paint or you can have a placard made and riveted on the smoker to commemorate your lost brother.

Agree with JD....so sorry for your loss....but I would put a brass name plate or something on it in memorium

Hey I appreciate the condolences! He was 43 and had three small kids 10, 8 and 3. These pain pills are killing our nation! Plus it's really hurt my mom and dad the most! You don't bury your children!

Always wanted a big smoker of my own. Little brother always knew it was my dream. Always borrowed one from friends. I got three outings already in place to cook for. All 200 plus persons. I've done this for about 20 years doing Ducks Unlimited and other gatherings. Won my first contest last year out of 10 teams for $1,000. But always on a borrowed smoker.

you are in the reverse flow forum so you have to decide on wood or charcoal and either horizontal offset or vertical? there are lots of choices out there. what have you used in the past and what did you like and dislike about the borrowed smokers?

Love a stick burner! But also sell propane gas for a living. I do smoking, fish fries, crawdad boils, shrimp boils, chicken, ribs, and anything else that's southern food outdoors!

Horizontal smoker. Warming box. Fruit woods, hickory, pecan and other hardwoods. Charcoal maybe? Gas burners and gas fire starter. Storage space on trailer for wood and coolers. Work area in front of smoker. Dampers on fire box and smoke stack. Reverse flow on heat and smoke. Maybe a sink and water tank? Slide out meat racks. Would love a Ferris wheel option but probably to costly a option!

in your shoes sounds like a lang on a trailer would do just great. and the trailer can be outfitted with a propane grill so you could have a whole mobile cooking setup in one.

I've used a Lang and Bubba smoker. Liked both really well!
