Hello Everyone,
My name is Jason and I live south of Springfield Missouri. I've been a huge fan of smoking meats ever since I was a pup. My Grandfather was from Germany and he made this great sausage every year and then would smoke it in his smoke house. I guess that is what started my fascination all those years ago.
I am just getting into a situation where I can afford to purchase a pit and was wondering what direction to go. I would like to keep it @ $300 to $350 till I get the hang of it and am then looking to go big. Any ideas on what direction to go?

Enjoy yourself, lots of good people here.

How far south of Springfield. I used to live in Springfield and have friends there and also in Branson.

I would check out Bass Pro on Campbell and see what they have and then go across the street and eat at Buckingham BBQ, it used to be my favorite place when i was there. They also have a VERY LARGE selection of Hot Sauces.

Just a few miles. Nixa actually. Good idea about the BPS. I went to Lowes and Home Depot earlier and wasn't super impressed. I also went to Sam's but still nothing that really impressed. I was hoping to find a model with an offset fire box. Dabble for a year and then either buy a lifetime model or make one.
BUCKINGHAMS is a very happy place. We have one in Nixa and I go at least once a week.

Can't wait to start smoking.

Did I mention we brew our own beer too?
I've found the two hobbies that complement each other nicely.

Welcome to SMF. Glad to have you here.

First off welcome jason to SMF. You'll really like it here cause there are alot of good people here that would just love to help in alot of ways. First you need to check out the 5-day e-course it free and very informative. One thing about smokers is you don't have to spend alot to produce good smoke look for the great outdoors smokey mountain propane unit it cheap and easy to smoke on. So get smoking and welcome to the addiction.

Welcome Jason! Pop on over to the charcoal forum and have a look around. All kinds of smokers are discussed there especially the more common types available at the chain stores.
