Two methods I use...
Copper element when I have the time. Zero residual taste, pure heat, highly recommend!
In a hurry? Three paper towels, twisted. Pour two table spoons of vegetable oil on two twisted towels, leave one dry. Place in cente, light all three on both tips, corral coal around. Quickly lights, high heat fast for quick preparations!

Homemade fire starter, fill a paper egg container with cross cut shredded paper and fill up remaining space with old candles in a can placed into a pot of boiling water. when cooled each egg cell is 1 starter.
