After several weeks of searching and thinking, reading posts on a variety of nonsmoking forums, I ordered the LEM MaxVac 1088A today. Very few reviews. LEM had it on sale and by signing up for email notifications, I received an additional 10% off. Not inexpensive for sure. The VacMaster 380 and Weston 2300 had very similar appearance but a dissimilar price. Looked at an Italian made machine from VacuPack but far too expensive. Chose the LEM because of it's 5 year warranty. Here's hoping I made a good choice. Time and use will tell.

First impression: SWEET! In preparing for the annual Thanksgiving dinner, rather than peeling several pounds of root vegetables and squash, beets and such for roasting the day of the event, decided to do all the prep the day before and vac seal everything. Very quick, very tight seal, and pretty quiet. Also happy to report that my stock of Food Saver bags worked just fine. All in all, I am truly happy with it.
