Least favorite C-Rat or MRE?

We used to get them on the cheap and most times free from friends. Never did duty that required MREs. Used to take them on extended Canoe trips... 4-5 days on a Virginia river. The nastiest I can recall was the hot dogs. They looked like fat little fingers in the vacuum pouch hence my term "four fingers of death." They tasted like s&@# and gave me flamethrower style heartburn.

I don't have any first-hand experience, but my dad was in the Army Reserve in the 70's-80's. He'd get MREs and bring them hunting. (These even included small packs of cigarettes.) They had something like a beef stroganoff that was pretty disgusting, as you say, it never fully rehydrates. But I did like their processed cheese and crackers quite a lot.

The C-Rats had cigs for most of their life span, but not MREs.

On a side note, I recently heard they were doing away with the tobasco sauce in the MREs....
If you say so. But I remember opening the packages and handing the cigs to those in our party who did smoke. I do remember the tiny bottles of tabasco, too.

I think #15, the Beef franks…or 4 fingers of death is what I hated the most. Eaten cold, my body wouldn’t let me swallow a bite and I could never heat them up enough.

#10, Tuna with noodles was my favorite. Came with pound cake and M&Ms too! So I could trade a desert for someone’s cheese packet to add into the Tuna and still have a desert for later!

Pound cake reminded me of T-rats.

Used to cut a piece about 2 inches by 2 inches and soak with alcohol used for cleaning map overlays....

Light that thing up, heat up a canteen cup of coffee or just warm your hands.

Great memories...

Forgot about the cheese and crackers. Those were not bad if you heated the pack and mixed the cheese well.

No such thing as MRE's in Vietnam, when I was there. We had C-Rations, and I liked most of the meals, but it was definitely better than the slop the Mess-Hall put out, when we had the pleasure of Dining back at the Base Camp, at Dong Tam.

No the pork was MRE's , nothing like 15 year old soda cracker with 15 year old PeanutButter on it from the c-rats lol

I hated any C-Rat with lima beans.....

As far as MRE, leasyt favorite was omellette..

I keep a few cases of MRE around. and a couple in the car trunk...

What are/were your least favorite?

No telling how much green paint I eat lol , I went in early 79 and the oldest date I seen was 1962 so not sure how long the shelf life was but they must've made a lot of them at 1 time, be interesting to see how much they stock these days, it would probably surprise us on the amount
