The two top bolts are blocking the plate from sealing correctly.
Any suggestions on a fix are greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to take those two bolts out and put them in the other way to get the clearance you need?

You have to put the stud end of the bolts into the firebox, that will leave a gap the thickness of the bolt head. According to my discussion with lava lock they do not design the baffle to fit flush against the firebox. I have no issues with my plate and the gap. I will note that my smoker is not a RF.
