I don’t want to remove them and have the fire box hang from the heat.
Is it possible to take those two bolts out and put them in the other way to get the clearance you need?
You have to put the stud end of the bolts into the firebox, that will leave a gap the thickness of the bolt head. According to my discussion with lava lock they do not design the baffle to fit flush against the firebox. I have no issues with my plate and the gap. I will note that my smoker is not a RF.

I decided just to cut some thick fire rope and stuff it in the gap.
