Hello All-
New to the forum, been reading quite a bit in here and decided to stop lurking and maybe contribute some. I've lived in the Kansas City area for the last 30 years, currently doing System Administration (UNIX) and in need of a new hobby. I live out in the country south of town, plenty of room to sit back and watch smoke rollin out the chimney of the horizontal smokin pit I've had for a few years. I'm thinking about experimenting a bit with an electric smoker, while I don't mind tending a fire, sometimes I have more to do than set back, watch a thermometer and sip some suds... Rough work, but somebody's gotta do it.....
While my 2 dogs have no issues with hanging out all day for the chance of sampling a treat- I've got a very demanding (and colorful) bird that insists on undivided attention- and he's spoiled rotten.
Everywhere you go you hear about the regional BBQ and how much better it is there- Kansas City is no exception, but I do have an "edge"- Less than 10 miles down my road is a place called Williamsburg KS- Home to a little tavern called Guy's and Mae's. They call it BBQ- but just between you and me, it's all about the smoke. This place reeks of it- (In a nice way). The place is famous~ The ribs are wrapped in foil and served up on fresh newspaper, the sauce is optional, and the beer is cold. Dosen't get much better than that!
I'll be around~ Holler at me anytime.
