Any pix or descriptions?  A lot of different smokers are made from drums, so more info would be helpful before we fire off some thoughts.

Most of the guys just make their own. Do you have any pics? How much did you pay?

If it is a UDS style, you are going to love it. Very easy to maintain temps, simple to run, and super efficient use of fuel. I have not used my SNP since I built my first UDS a couple of years ago.
