Well, here it goes.

My name is Ed and I have a problem.  I love to grill.  I also love to fish, hunt, and do most things outdoors.  After much deliberation, i finally jumped into the wonderful world of smoking all things edible.  Actually, I have jumped, but not technically landed yet.  My smoker (Masterbuilt Digital/Electric 30 inch ) is on a UPS truck somewhere and will hopefully arrive at my house this week where 2 racks of Baby Backs are patiently waiting.;

While i am an able bodied grill'er, the fine art of turning out delicious mouth watering smoked goods is new to me.  So, here I am.

My main interest so far will be:

Bacon, Ribs, Salmon, and some of those bacon explosion things which i believe are referred to as "Fatties" on this site.  Probably going to have to do a pork loin or 10 and i am sure a few other things along the way.

About me:

Born and raised in Arizona and lived in a few places around the country.  Spent 6 years in the Navy and have been in Oregon since 2001.

Look forward to meeting you all!

Ed

Hi neighbor,

Welcome to the addiction. I have some baby backs soaking up smoke right now for dinner. My first try at ribs. I have been smoking salmon for years and years. Gotta hit the river in the next couple of weeks after spring chinook cant wait for that. I am from Clackamas nice to see other PNW guys on here. These guys are great any questions and help you need answers will come in short order. Make sure you sign up for the free 5 day e-course. It really helped me not knowing anything about smoking things other then fish. I have only been here since November 2010 and am still learning and drooling all over my keyboard with the Q-view the brothers and sisters post of their fine work. The first step is admitting you have a problem. LOL

It's all down hill from here. As soon as I figure out how the q-view deal works I will post some of future smokes.

Welcome

Lance

First off welcome Ed to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are alot of really good folks that would just love to help you with anything to do with smoking. Now we like having new folks here to give a new prospective on some of the ways we do things around here. Now if you are really new then I would suggest that you sign up fir the 5-day E-course it free and it will give you the basics on smoking and a few recipes too. Here's a link to it:

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/list/127

then you will have a method to your newly found madness and believe me it will be a madness. Then when you start smoking things you will have to learn how to post the pictures / Qview

here. So here's a link to a tutorial on how to post your Qview so we can see what your doing.

 http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/thread/82034/how-to-post-qview-to-smf

Now the next thing you have to do is run out and get something to smoke. Then just smoke it and if you have any questions just post  them here and we will answer all your questions that you might have. Oh yea there's no stupid questions we were all there in the beginning and we just really like to help others enjoy the fabulous smoked foods that we do. So again

Welcome to Your New Addiction
