This is the side that will be welded to the horizontal cook chamber. It has a couple of alignment tabs welded to it for when we finally go to weld the two tanks together.

the opening to the vertical cook chamber can be enlarged later if I find out it its restricting the draft flow too much.

This is the horizontal CC door. I am adding a 3/4" x 1/8" flat spacer to the edge of the door before I weld the 2" wide flanges on.

This will allow the door to sit in the opening a little more hopefully sealing a bit better. I have 1"x1/8" flat, fire resistant felt gasket, like what is used on the Big Green Egg smokers.

My welding has definitely improved. Thanks to my brothers help and my new Hobart 140 wire welder.

The door sits nicely with the 2" flanges on the top and bottom edge.

My brother was busy mounting the firebox door. The hinges are tacked in place but its time to stop for the night.

All in all its finally starting to move along quicker now. Still lots to do, but I'm getting excited !

I guessing ur Gona put some more welds on that door hinges tho right? If u grind the milscale it will penetrate more and weld more clean. Mig welds are notorious for lack of fusion.

After thinking it over, I decided that I would be using the vertical chamber most anytime I was using this smoker.

With that, I decided to not have the extra stack and open the vertical chamber to free flowing heat and smoke, and having the stack on top the vertical chamber.
 
It's been a busy week!

This is a sheet metal roller I picked up a few years back to roll the flat bars to form the door flanges.

It works pretty slick, but rolling the 1/8" steel flat bar is pretty much the limit.

I'm getting good at these easy welds. Just don't ask me to stand on my head to weld.

We finished up the firebox door hinges with some gussets...just in case.

Ended the night with Laying the beast on the floor to line it all up, and tack it together!

Yes the fire grate is not level. I have to grind some on the left side so it will drop all the way into the supports for it.

Thanks Guys! Had to skip tonight...ran out of wire again! Ran to buy my 2nd 10lb roll of wire. The welding the 2 tanks together used a lot of wire.

Pushed my Hobart 140 pretty hard too, but it made it. Gonna hit it hard tomorrow after work.
