Insulate smoker outside

No idea how well it works in these relatively low temp ranges. I first heard of it as an insulation for Knifemaking forges, where the internal temp is in the 2300 degree range and the exterior temp is warm to the touch. Normally applied 2 inches thick with a hard coat of refractory cement, on the inside of the forge.
Often called ceramic wool. Someone on here was thinking about using it to reinsulate a masterbuilt smoker, but never heard how it worked out.
