So I had the UDS running for 16 hours this weekend and it performed pretty well except for the consistency of the smoke. I guess it comes down to how the basket is loaded so I am looking for some opinions and methods from other UDS users. I use about 50/50 royal oak lump and kingsford briquettes with hickory chunks mixed through. I kept having hour plus long periods of zero smoke coming out. Should I up the amount of hickory? Ditch the lump and go 70% briquettes and 30% chunks? Run all briquettes and throw in a tube smoker? What are you guys experiencing? 
 
Wow David I really like that ammo can idea. So basically you have a separate ball valve to control the intake to the box then a 1" pipe to route it into the smoker?
