Income Tax Time (And Why I Love It !!)
I knew that Subject Line would get you here.
Just thought I’d show you guys that “Income Tax Time” doesn’t have to be a “Bad Thing”:
It all started in 1975, when we got Audited. At the time we owned a big old (1840) Colonial house with a total of 17 rooms. We lived in one side & rented the other side to Mrs Bear’s Brother & his wife. We went to H & R Block to get our taxes done, and we got over $1700 back because we deducted half of a new roof, half of the new $2000 sewage hook-up we had to connect to, and a bunch of materials I bought for the many remodeling projects I had done on that old house.
So about a year later we got audited, and we had to pay back $1100 of the $1700 that we had gotten back, plus interest. It turned out there was a question on the form that the guy from “H & R Block” failed to ask us. The question was “Are you renting to a friend or relative?” The Block guy just checked “NA”. It turns out that is why we were audited. If you are renting to a friend or relative, you aren’t allowed to claim a loss.
So Mrs Bear was really mad, and she said, “Nobody else is ever doing our Income Tax again!!” Then she signed up for a Night School on Income Tax Preparation. The next Spring, even though she was working a full time job, she got a Part Time job at an Income Tax office. A couple years later she was asked to head an Income Tax Office at an Insurance//Realtor’s Office. She ran that office for a number of years until they closed that office. Some of her clients had asked her, and she said yes that she would do their Taxes at our house, along with the friends & relatives that she was already doing. So here we are 40 years later, and she is still doing some of those Income Taxes, although she has whittled the number down to a few.
Of the few she still does, three of them were older ladies who were all bringing me a batch of their Home Made Halupkis every year during Income Tax Time. They were Hungarian, Polish, and Ukrainian ladies & they all made Awesome Halupkis. Then about 8 years ago the 88 year old Polish lady passed away, and 2 years ago my Buddy’s Hungarian Mother passed away at the age of 96. So now the only one I have left is the Ukrainian lady, who is currently 89 years old. She’s a sassy little lady, and keeps on making me my Halupkis. Hers are Awesome too, so I figured I’d tell you guys this story, and show you a sample of the goodies I get that make my Annual Income Tax Season such a Joy.
Hope you All enjoyed this little History, and below are a few Pics.

My First Pair from that batch:

Here’s how I heat them. Cut in half, Nuke for 90 seconds, spin each pair 180° & Nuke for another 60 seconds.
This is one of the things I like about a Nukulater. They taste just like they did when they were fresh:
