Ours 100% mechanical. No lights, no chips... nothing.

Years ago I was fixing whirlpool fridges and you open a part and the box would say proudly made in USA, then the part would have another country's name on it. What ever you buy get a extended warranty, just bought a Samsung washer day after Christmas, awaiting my 2nd service call on it tomorrow. it's a all in 1 vented, first softener dispenser valve went bad then detergent leak at the tank, suspect the new valve connector is thinner than the old 1 so leaking, hopefully a new tank will fix it. Still under 1 year warranty so don't have to test best buys extend 1 lol

Quiet often I suspect folks don't consider the added cost of extended warranties when they compare the cost of Speed Queen to others.

Your scenario is exactly what I got tired of dealing with. Constant breaks, downtime, service calls, water on the floor.

We bought commercial duty GE a few years ago... no bells no whistles, really like them. Bought them from 15 miles away, for service purposes... Speed Queen dealer was 45 miles away. Down side is a deaf person could hear when dryer is done... like 3 long obnoxious buzzers. We'll that and when they let the new guy wire the cord on the dryer... you can wire a 220 cord wrong, it works until washer and dryer rub together and create a bare spot in the paint...what a flash! And welded them together!

This was also an issue for me. So when I gave up on buying the extended warranty I simply junked the unit(s).

Well I have been known to fix stuff but at almost 65 I am not sure how many more repairs I have left in me, wife will know who to call if I am gone.

I know it's not BBQ... But who else would you trust for an opinion on washer and dryers except the best forums on the net...

So we are in the market for some new ones... The wife is tired of buying used (I'm not)... We have always been a big fan of Whirlpool but reading reviews 8 of 10 say stay away...

MOst likely it will have to be from Lowes/HomeDepot... I know they are what I call seconds as is everything they sell But I don't really have much other choice... I will hunt around for somewhere else but I'm not sure there is anything..

But anyways... If I could get y'alls input on this I woulod appreciate it...

Washer/Dryer.
We are on our 2 nd set of Maytag's.
1st set lasted over20 yrs. Bought when we built our house in 1985.
Washer would not turn on intermittingly and even worse the tank would not pump out!
We had issues with our well and I think sand got into the pump?
Went round 2 with a new set, almost 10 yrs now, all is good!
Came with a 10 yr warranty on the Tranny I believe.
Very happy with both units!
FYI: Stay away from Samsung units!
Our repair guy said they are junk, break down before 5 yrs and parts are hard to find!
Basically a throw away unit !
LG: K Mart/ Sears closing, the salesman told me to stay away from them!
They offer bells and whistles ,but are poorly built!
These guys do this for a living, I Think they know more than I!?
Maytag's are upgraded whirlpool products, seems not that much more$ !
Look for closeout deals if you want to save $ ?
Speen Queen : Sorry ? Not spending over $ 3K for the pair! I will pass!

For the washer it is without question a Speed Queen. I bought one about two years ago and I won’t buy anything else. My old dryer still works, but when that takes a dump I’ll get a Speed Queen dryer too.

They all have outsourced parts . Some more or less than others . Speed Queen included .
Trick is knowing what " Made in America " means .

I have a Kenmore washer dryer set , that I know is over 20 years old . I think it's Whirlpool . Either way , easy fix on most all of it .

I wish we still had our 30 yr old Kenmore set. Bomb proof and easily fixable

I never buy extended warranties on anything big or small. complete and total waste of hard earned money. Cars included. if you need to buy an extended warranty you are admitting you are buy something you expect to break. I bet we have saved 100K by never buying them.
