 Hi everyone,

I am a sheetmetal worker by trade, and have access to all equiptment and metal needed to build a

smoker for the backyard. I am asking for some advise on how to go about it. I've had a Brinkman GreatOutdoor

propane smoker for about five years now, so I know what I'm doing with the smokeing part. But I definately

am seeking the true flavor of smokeing by all wood!

If anyone has any input, I would love to here it. Things like the basic layout and breakdown of the smokers differant sections.

Is there a certain size ratio for firebox to smoking chamber? Location for firebox. Is there a necessity for holes in bottom of smoke chamber for proper air flow? how to size the flute? And so forth.

Anyway, I would appriciate any and all imput from anyone and everyone.

                                  Thank You from boston Mass!

First off welcome to SMF. I can't wait to see your new smoker. You'll really like this place for there are a bunch of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking meat. Then if you have any questions you just post them here or yu can try in chat for a faster answer. If you are really new to all of this I would recommend that you look up and take the e-course. It is free and it will also give you the basics on smoking. So with all that said now go and get something to smoke.

Welcome To Your New Addiction

Below is the calculator I used to get the figures I needed.  As far as types go I suggest you read some of the build threads, just because there are many types

that can be built.  A reverse flow is what I ended up building and am very pleased with the design and function, or you can go with a side fire box design, which is what my Dad has and he likes it..lol

There are so many ways to build one, so when you decide on what type then you can start with the details/ fun part!

There are some very crafted builder here on the site that will be glad to help you out, even stop by if they are close by.

Make sure and post up pics of your build sometimes we can spot things as you go that might be a easy fix now then it would be later.

can't wait to see your build in action, don't ever think a question is dumb just ask away!
